I heard a sort of whining noise coming from the front of the car as I was parking and my steering wheel was 3/4 of the way turned to the right. It made the sound like when you are out of power steering fluid. I checked the fluid level for the power steering and it was full. It made the noise once again as I was backing into my driveway. Today I didn't hear it. Could this possibly be a sign that the power steering pump is starting to go bad?

Might be. The shaft seal on mine failed and the fluid was draining back into the crankcase. On a 2.4L it will do that.
I would wait until the pump totally failed before replacing.
You might consider changing the PS fluid. That might help.
Ooops I mispelled steering.
Is there any danger with the power steering pump going out while you are driving?
2002 Cavalier
Nope there wouldn't really be that much of a danger, you would just loose power steering and possibly have a constant whine from the pump.
Obviously if you lost power steering when cornering though it probably would be a bit of a shock depending on what speed you were doing and could possibly throw you off a bit lol.
