Loud Engine Tick and more...

I just bought a 98 Z24 locally from some guy here real cheap. it has some body damage and supposedly a "rod knock"

Well i got it home and was listening to it.... and i am not so sure it is a rod knock after all.

it is a loud "tink" noise. not the more THUNK noise of a rod... (trust me, i spun a bearing on my other Z24... i know the sound of a rod knock)

then the wierdest thing... when you turn the car off.... there is some strange "whirring" noise that continues for a few seconds after the engine cuts out... also like something spun by the engine... spinning down once the engine is cut out... and no it isnt the radiaton fan... this is like whirring alone with the engine on, and as soon as you turn the engine off this whirring gently slows to a stop... also like it you had the drive wheels jacked up and the car in drive.... the wheels spin along with the engine... but you cut the engine, and the wheels keep spinning under their own momentum and slowly come to a stop.

it cant be anything belt driven.... as the belt would stop immediately with the engine as well.

it cant be anything mechanicaly linked to the crank, as that too would stop with the engine....

this has to be something drving by the engine, but able to spin on its own as well.... i am really baffled by this one...

here is a video of the "rod knock"

i have no idea what happened to the sound in the middle of the video... but pay attention to the ticking at the beginning and the end. (the loud roaring that sound like a muscle car reving was not really like that in person... so ignore that and pay attention to the ticking at either end)

Ya know that sounds ALOT like the sound my 2200 was making, it finally threw out a multiple cylinder miss,
I'm pretty sure it was caused by some faulty wires. Try checking your plugs.
