recent mods to cause p0420 code?
Monday, June 23, 2008 3:40 PM
after about 200 miles of driving after i installed my rksport high flow air intake and my tein ss coilovers, i got a CEL w/the code "p0420". i ran several searches on the site to find out that either my sensor or my CAT are bad and need replaced. what im curious about is whether or not either of those 2 things could have caused it.

could the air intake be messing up my sensors? ive read over and over that there're 2 sensors- one before the CAT and one after- which is the one i plugged into the air intake (if either at all)

if my car was too low and possibly hit something bottoming out (which, it really isnt that low, and dont believe that i hit anything)- could that have damaged the CAT to the point where it'd be broke and need replaced?

just curious whether i need to put the old stock air intake back on the car or bring the cav to stock height before sending it to the dealership (still have 'bout 30k miles on the factory warranty , so i pay a minimal fee)

thx fellas

from the "what's my CEL mean sticky":

p0420 - catalyst system efficiency below threshold.

it means your rear o2 sensor is bad. has nothing to do with your suspension or intake. however, if you ottomed out and damaged the sensor, they wont warranty it. you should change it yourself anyway, just make sure to use an ac delco sensor, not a bosch.
