Idle Air Control Motor???possibly..mine did this for a wekk or so, dealership replace the IAC and nothing since...
Vaccum issue....Not sure....
IAC valve is my guess too. My eco idles low from time to time and i suspect its my IAC, cuz it running it hard and reving cures the problem temp. I would go to the dealer and pick one up, it'll only take 5 minutes to swap out by yourself.
BTW the only reason i would suspect a cylinder is dying is that your getting a loss in power and compression.
Ok sounds easy enough, anyone know about how much one usually runs?
Getting one out of a junk yard car would probably be a bad idea tho, huh? Not like i can find any eco's around anyways!

also if you get a chance, go by auto zone or advance auto parts, or what ever your local parts store is that has a real time engine data acquisition and see what the TPS sensor is reading...
thomas
IACs arent cheap, I would test dont guess
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
nope like 600 something for mine...thank the guy above for warrenties...lol
What?!?! Thats ridiculous. Looks like i'll clean up the one in my spare TB and try that.
Rob - What would be the proper way to test it? For the life of me i cant think of a way to.

Ok, i'll look into getting a new one. I'll try hittin up auto zone and see what they say.
So this had nothing to do with my a/c? Or do i need to get that looked at as well? Made a hissing sound and went warm for a day then went back to normal. Maybe just need a recharge?

Hey! Nobody's going to mention the GM Tech-bulletin on this issue, explicitly covering J-bodys with the ecotec and the manua transmission made in '04? I know you said "I don't want to search....", but do. Narrow it with the word manual or something. There is a specific GM service bulletin (not recall) covering this. There are also specific postings on this site covering the issue. Its a coding problem in the ECU and needs a reflash from a GM Tech-II tool. I would check that out first though, before throwing parts at the problem.
How about a link to the said TSB?
Also i stopped at my local GM dealer, $130 for the IAC valve.
New sig on the way.

I need to look into this as well. Mine has always had an off and on weird idle issue usually invovling changes after very slight engine loads (idle in second gear for a while , mash the clutch in and revs shoot to 3k, or about 4 times i have had the car shut off right as engine coolant went to around 195 degrees and i am using the a/c.
It always does the slight load thing. Put your car in 2nd or 3rd, let it idle up and slight incline. get to the top and mash the clutch and it just revs up. A blip of the throtle fixes it. The engine cutting off has happened maybe 5 times in the last 50k miles, so I do not worry about it as much, but it is still annoying.

"Idle Flare or Decel Stall
This condition may affect 2002-04 vehicles with 4 cylinder 2.2L engine
(VIN F - RPO L61) (Chevrolet Malibu, Cavalier, and Classic, Oldsmobile Alero, Pontiac Grand Am and Sunfire).
Some owners may comment about an engine idle flare when the clutch is depressed. Also, some owners may comment about a low speed engine decel stall when coming to a stop.
The flare is caused by the vehicle entering stall-saver mode when the clutch is depressed. The low speed engine decel stall is produced by an interaction between the engine control software and the IAC motor.
Reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration available. The new calibration was released beginning with TIS satellite data update version 6.0 for 2004 available June 2004. As always make sure your Tech 2 is updated with the latest software version."
This is copied from an earlier discussion(search for eco idle).
Ok. I'll still swap out my IAC(since i do have an extra laying around). If that doesnt work, its off to the stealership. Hopefully they will use lube.
if not jes theres 2 ecos at my local yard i could yank parts from. let me know.
