My question is u have the metal shaving be fore or after the oil change or with the oil filter before it installed?.
the metal shavings are on the old filter when it is being replaced. .when dumping the old oil into a container. i can see very small shavings. i change my oil every 3000 miles.

If its lil flakes of metal, Yes its nornmal wear and tear. I get that in my 01 cavalier 2.2L, I see it very small amounts on oil changes.
if you have time and you wanna be extra careful you can just pull off your oil pan and check for any wiggle room in your rods.
wiggle room is bad...

No it's not. Thats a *ucking bad thing, I've done numerous oil changes on Ecotec engines (with the cartridge type filter) and I have never seen metal shavings in ANY of them.
Agreed^^ ... last time i checked oil shavings in the oil isn't a normal accurance.
A truck just came in at work with a bad engine knock, tech pulled the oil, had a small amount of oil shavings in it, you could see them sparkling and he used his magnet to pull a bunch out so i could see and needless to say that truck needs a new motor. So i'd check it out with your local mechanic or something before forgetting about it.

OK good to know I thought that was kinda funny...
i was finding lil metal "bits" in my oil on my 2.4L twincam....
at first it was just tiny lil metal specs... almost like dust....
then the next change it was small particles...
then the next there were actual flakes...
and then i spun my rod bearing and needed a new engine before i got the the next oil change.
now that i look at my torn up bearings... i see where the shavings came from...
If i were you... i would spend a weekend and get yourself a new set of rod and main bearings, and pop them in the car now while she stil is in the early stages.
it might cost ya $150 in parts and a weekend in the garage..... but if ya let it get any worse, you will be like me and find yourself a few grand poorer cuz you didnt.
