big trouble with my 2.4!! any ideas?
Thursday, May 22, 2008 5:16 PM
a few months ago i spun a barring and it kept spinning every time i fixed it. just recently i threw a dif moter in it. i have a 2000 cavy z24 in i just put in a 97 sunfire GT 2.4 and im having a problem...

when i start it the intire moter shakes like a bad miss fire. but i know for sure it's not a miss cuz i got new coil pack and plugs but i noticed that it has different injectors so i think that might be the problem...also when it run's the throttle body makes very loud hissing noise. some plz gimme some pointers...

Check for vaccum leaks around the throtle body and intake manifold or a lose vacuum hose. The coil husing (white piece) fails more often than the coils.

what about timing? these engines have alot of problems with timing cuz the guiders are plastic and they break then the car jumps timing. what about that?

first problem... you cant use a '97 engine in a 2000.... unless you swapped out the harnesses...

second how are you "sure", you could still have an ignition problem, did you hook it up to a scanner or sun machine??

sure you didn't forget to plug in the vacuum hose from your map sensor?

ok i figured it all out it was the timing and the car runs great and also the 97 engine did fit the only thing that didint fit was the knock senser but i re-wired it to fit...so if anyone wants to know a 97 engine WILL fit in a 2000 cavalier
