I did a fuel filter today on my 98 coupe and broke ONE of the outer pieces on the black quick disconnect fitting before I realized how to take it off and since I could not walk home and could not leave it on the lift as it would be needed tomorrow I just put it back together and it seems very tight and I could not pull it back out and was wondering if this was OK or not?? I put a zip tie around the remaining tabs to be sure the clip did not move and ran it about 15 minutes on the lift and a 15 minute ride home and saw no leaks but gas makes me nervous though.
Here is my info for you.U can go to either advance auto parts or auto zone they both sell replacement clips/ kits to fix those stupid gm quick disconnects. If it was going to leak it would have be apparent after your work in my opinion with the psi on that line/ connection. If it would make u feel more confident go buy the new clips and they are in the tool area with the parts that say HELP section with fuel clips, plastic lines etc associated with the filter.U should be fine I did my mom n laws malibu and broke a clip too,but it was so tight after the new filter I left it be and almost 2yrs now it has not leaked yet! You should be fine. This should help u out.
at lease you didnt break it like me
then how i fixed mines.

How do you get the filter off if you do break the plastic clips on the disconnect. Mine looks the same as the picture above. When I squeezed the black tabs to try and pull apart they all borke off. If anyone knows a trick to get the plastic parts that are still inside out and get the fuel filter seperated from the line, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
I suggest a small screwdriver and some patience.
Anyone else think it's totally stupid to have a quick disconnect on one side and threads on the other? What could possibly be the reason for that? I understand it's a plastic line, but my Tahoe has a plastic line coming from the tank and it transitions to metal before the filter.
Another stupid design for the Cavalier.
