i sold my cusion my 2001 sunfire it has the 2200 motor in it with over 100k on it. yesterday she said she saw something leaking. then today she went to cvs and got back in the car and the low coolant light came home. she got the car home then all the antifreez came out and landed in the driveway. i stoped over today and looked at it and right where the belt is its all wet and you can smell the coolant. theres nothing in the tank also. does this mean the water pump went bad or a pipe went. my aunt wants to take it to pontiac to have them fix it but i think i can do it. is it a hard job?
Remove the serp belt, unbolt the pump, Prep housing, install new one, install belt again, fill with coolant, run car with res. cover off till fan cycles on and off. This will allow the system to get rid of any air in it.
thats about it.
Its the water pump, DO NOT take it to the dealership!

yea we are going to fix . my aunt wants to go to the dealer but my dad said no. tomorrow my dads going to go look at the car and see what happen then he said he will try and put water in it and get it to are house so we can fix it here. what else should we change when we put a new water pump in. it has new spark plugs and wires everything else is original.
well we went to look at the car today we put water in it drove it around for a litle it had heat and ran at 192. it didnt make any noise didnt leak anything. what else could have happen?
Take off the belt and check the water pump for play. Id say most likely a hose is to blame, or theres a hole in the radiator. Just check over all the hoses after a good drive to make sure they are not leaking, and after it cools take out the radiator and inspect it for damage or leakage.
i still say water pump.....
why dont you have it pressure tested?
we are driveing the car up here this weekend and im going to look at it. my dad said he checked it for play and there wasint any. so this weekend we are going to drive it to my house and im going to start looked it over again.
It took me 2 hours to do my water pump on my 96' LN2, in the parking lot at college. That also included a 45 minute parts run and running back and forth to my toolbox(it was in the building i had my classes in).
we just put a new water pump on it today. we are going to drive it around and see how it does but other then that its lookin good, my cusion is happy its back .
