I am looking to buy a new engine harness for my 98 Z24 convertible.
I have gotten an email from Ryan Shizzler, saying he has a harness from a 97 sunfire.
Do I need a special harness since it is a convertible?
All I know is that I need a harness from a 95-99 Cav with a 2.4L 4 speed auto? (what year did 3 speeds come in?)
I also know you need similar options (A/C,Power windows and locks, droptop,ABS, etc)
I don't really care about the droptop working if it isn't the right harness, but I'd like my a/c, abs, and windows and locks to work at least.
I just need this car running asap..
Thanks guys,
Jarrod
btw the reason i need a new harness if because the old one fell out from under the car along with the PCM and I ran it over doing 70+MPH and ripped it from the harness... You probably remember my father making that post?
I'm not sure about the trans. that's what you need to figure out. but yeah, you'll need a harness out of a Cavalier or Sunfire that has the same engine options (A/C, ABS, auto) as yours does.
I would imagine that the convertible wiring is all part of the interior harness.
good luck.

not for nothing, but you should fill out your profile
and 97s and 98s are compatible with each other, but like freq said, you need to make sure that the harness youre getting has the same engine options as yours (with a/c being the main thing you should need to worry about for an engine harness) i was told that an auto harness will work on a manual transmission, but a manual harness will NOT work on an auto. i cant guarantee that though.
And you can not go with a "95-99" in general, as they switched to OBD 2 in 96, so I would assume the harnesses are different between those years.
yea the cars a 97 sunfire with the 2.4 LD9 4 spd. auto (had the traction control botton on the shifter and 123 on the selector) has ABS ( all 3rd gen js had abs), and a/c. I dont think the power locks and windows are in the engine bay harnes i believe thats all the interior wiring.
I have the engine harness out of my 97 Auto 2.4...
I had to cut one or two connectors off it & steal some of the looming, but its still a good harness... I cut one of the wheel sensor wires & maybe something else.. The IAT wire has been extended... I can go over it to check.
Like mentioned above, the engine harness is just that- for the engine... But, if you have a 98- I would make sure you get a 97-98 harness.. In 99, they got rid of the EGR system, so the wiring will probably be missing.. A late 96 would probably work, but you would have to make sure because I'm not sure whats different w/ the ODB1 system.
I know on some 96's, the connectors for the computer are different.. They had 3 plugs going into the computer when on the 97+, its only 2 large plugs...
If you are interested in my harness, PM me.
Thanks.
