Horn Problems Again.
Thursday, May 08, 2008 7:12 PM
Ok guys i'm in need of some help. I posted a topic about my horn randomly going off for about 5-10seconds upon hitting a large pothole. So today im waiting at the red light for it to go green so i can turn left, it turns green and i accelerate away, as i do for no apparent reason my horn starts to go off for about 5 seconds, since then it has happened twice more. It only seems to happen if i accelerate while turning from a very slow speed or stop.

I hope some one can help as to what it could be because its getting very embarrassing. ?

Just for the record the car also has an alarm which the previous owner wired in, to be honest i think they did a pretty bad job but im not sure if that would have anything to do with it.

That crappy wiring job is proboly the problem. I would think a wire is shorted or grounding out.

Yeah i was thinking that it was probably the most likely cause (bad wiring job). I think im just going to disconnect the horn for now so it doesn't happen anymore until i have more time to pull things apart and sort it all out.

To get to the horn i believe you have to remove the front bumper is that correct? I guess i know what im doing this weekend then lol.

I believe i spotted mine in the right front wheel well, right behind the bumper. You should have a horn relay that you can just pull, instead of trying to get to the actual horn. Im not sure if its by the driver's door or under the hood, since i havent needed to look for it.

Just learn to wave when it goes off.....

then everyone just thinks you know someone driving around....problem solved.

There are a couple things to consider....
1) was the old alarm even wired inot the horn?
2) Are the horns on a ground switch (constantly have power)?
3) what is the condition of the connector, and horn in gerneral??

Could just be corrosion leading to grounding during those driving conditions.....or a crappy wire job.
