I had a 95 cavalier which recently got in an accident and the damage on it is not worth fixing...I looked around and found some1 selling a 95 cavalier with 213 000km on it for not a lot. My old one only had 168 000km though...I was just wondering in general if u take care of the car and do the oil change, tranny fluid and other normal maintenance how long do these engines usually last for?
or do the trannys die b4 ?
sold mine with 180,000 miles and ran like a top still, have seen them with well over 200k.
one of mine a99 has 224000 km the other is a97 with 235000km on it the 97 is an automatic the 99 is a 5 speed both are going strong
Most people eventually need to do the head gasket, and once they're past that there's a possibility that the timing chain will let go and take the engine with it. As long as those two things don't stop you, the engines are hard to kill.

the 2.2 is fairly bulletproof, so long as its properly maintained. i wouldnt be suprised to see 400k miles plus on one with a head gasket, water pump, and timing chain change.

From what I've seen, a head gasket very generally takes $100-200 in parts to do yourself, or $600-1000 for a shop to fix.

Levin the most I have seen out of them so far was 444456km and I had that thing after my grandfather did routine maintenance all the time but then again that was a 1991 Cavalier 2.2, but was a great car. When I sold her she didnt burn oil, and had no visible signs of problems in the exhaust system, so they can last a very long time, but then again some may only last a very short time, it matters how you drive, and how well you keep car of it

i just hit 210, 000 Km and my cavalier is riding just fine. it's all about maintenance bro.
"not to be slept on."
i have 378,000 on my 2000. Only a water pump went on it. Great motors. Gotta love them. No burning oil yet.
i have 241k kms on my 97 2.2 right now... had 270k km on my 96 when it got totalled... and sold my 95 still running with 301k kms on it...
I have a 97 2.2 with 160,000 Miles. I was wondering how long they do last myself. It doesn't burn oil from what i could tell. I would like to change the timing chain and anything else i can think of. Sometimes i wonder if i should just by a new engine, and rebuilt trany.
Mine's hit 280,000 miles, roughly. Still runs pretty good.
Little valve noise, reverse doesn't work so good, and the TCC solenoid went. *shrug*
mine has 72,000 miles it has a bad clutch and is overheating at random .... currently is sitting waiting for the solution.. it all depends on how the car was taken care of...
