good idling but no power

hey. I own a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L. I have had a problem now since a couple of weeks. my car was layed up for 4 months while i was working. I came home, and started it and she idled fine, but once i tryed to drive there was no power. I thought that maybe the ignition coil might of got damp while she was sitting in the cold for a while. I took it off and dryed it but it back on and she worked. I have bought new plugs and wires after that. She worked good for about a week then driving the other day i started to feel her missin and jerking. she would only do it a few times and then be fine for a while and then etc. I came home and parked her over night. went to start the car the next day now she won't work at all. I changed one side of the ignition coil, it had a crack. checked for fire and that was great. I changed my plugs back to the ones i took out thought maybe it killed one of the plugs when she was missin and jerky, not's not the problem. When I start the car she idles good, you wouldn't no there's anything wrong till you put the car in drive of reverse, she the dye's down and jerks slightly. When I go to drive i can accelerate wide open and all she does is bog, I'm down to about 40 km on the any hill. I have no idea what it might be. any idea's would be great. Thanks

I forgot to say, when i drive the car the check engine light starts the blink, maybe it's because the car is not working right. Must thought i would add that in for some help on solving the issue. Thanks

get the code pulled, could tell you a lot about your problem then come back and let us know what you found out.

I would have to get a code reader is that correct? Also I can smell gas too, maybe that would be normal where the car is not running properly.

I can already guess the code p0300.

missfire could be: ignition, fuel or mechanical problems. I'm inclined to say it's gonna be ignition.

well when the check engine light flashes... it means its catalyst damaging... so be careful you could screw up your cat... but now that you mention you smell gas... im thinking 1 or more of the cylinders is not firing and just puking the gas out the exhaust...

when i check for fire, there is lots in all cylinder's. could it be the fuel filter? Just makes me think it's pretty good idling in park once i put the car in drive or reverse she just bogs down?

i dont think it would be your fuel filter... from what your saying your smelling fuel... and its not leaking anywhere... id put my money on it being an ignition problem...

hey i just found out something else. I have repaced to of my igntion coils. My outside one towards the front is not getting any fire on those plugs. what could be wrong with this, I tryed switchin the coils around no difference. I am guessing it might be those to plugs that the coils plug into? thanks

did you change your spark plugs? how about the wires? if you did change your plugs, did you use delco plugs?

Replace the coil. The car "can" idle on 2 cylinders but once given a load it'll crap out. Coils arn't always cheap but its best to use brand new ones, or find some low mileage used ones.
