I can't believe I'm asking this, but I suppose that's what you guys are here for.
I have a 2001 Cavalier 2.2L that is getting ready to hit 72,000 miles. With that asinine economic stimulus check I get next month, I'm going to get the Cav checked out. I have always gotten routine oil changes (which will be on the list). Aside from that, though, I haven't really had any maintenance done on the car. Here's the question: What am I due to have done?
I think I need new front tires (I got new tires 5+ years ago, but haven't gotten them balanced and rotated since then - dumb, I know I know) and after this winter, I think my front ones need to be replaced - the tread looks pretty shallow. New brakes (rotors, pads, the whole deal) less than 2 years ago, so those should still be ok.
I have had this car for 7.5 years and I would love it if it lasted me at least another 3-4 (if not longer).
I ask this primarily because I am female and if I don't go to a mechanic with a list of tasks for him to do, I will get screwed. And I trust this place to give me good advice, so... give it to me.
Thanks in advance

Not to play the whole sexism/counter-sexism role, but being female has nothing to do with it
According to the owners manual (oooh ahhh *bows*) at around 60k you're supposed to get your accessory drive belt checked out. Just to make sure it's not getting worn out prematurely, etc. Supposedly also a chassis lube or whatever... Honestly, I just hit 61k and I haven't done either, and I don't feel much inclined to either.
So long as your keeping up with the oil changes, and you're not noticing anything funky, I'd say you're doing alright. Maybe get it tuned up if you're in the mood. Then again... what do I know.
I hope sometime in those years the air filter has been changed..... also you might want to get your spark plugs switched... considering the average spark plug life is 30,000-40,000 miles
But there aigain those ac delco spark plugs can do a lot more i changed the factory ones at 170000 km and judging by how they were looking they could have do a lot more.
Well, if you got a tune up hopefully they'd change the air filter/spark plugs.
coolant flush possibly, air filter change, oil change (you mentioned), trans fluid check(maybe flush), spark plugs if they need it, drive belt check, thats about it.
oil change, spark plug change, maybe new wires, air filter, feul filter rotate and balance tires.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, tranny flush, check brakes, check coolant - Those are all very good ideas.
Air filter - Probably original and durty an hell. It will help improve MPG.
Fuel filter - They dont last forever and well prevent problems down the road.
Spark plugs - My original ACdelcos were toast at 75,000 miles.
Spark plug wires - Always change when you change plugs.
Tranny flush - AFT doesnt last forever either.
transmission flush for sure. I did mine a few months ago (at 70k miles i think) and it did wonders.
coolant
plugs
fuel filter
getting the brake rotors turned helps
these are at the top of my list
I would only turn the rotors if your going to replace the pads. If the pads arent perfectly smooth and you turn the rotors w/o replacing the pads. Your not going to be getting full brakeing force, due to the fact that all the pad isnt touching the rotor.
^^^does the 2.2 have a pcv?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the 2.2 from 1995-1998 has a pcv, but the 2200 from 1999-2002 does not, ditching it in favor an air/oil separator in the top of the valve cover? Just got mine, and I went looking for a pcv but couldn't find one. I Googled it, and that's what I came up with.
i would try buying all the parts you can on your own and have someone do the work. it will save some money.
parts as mentioned in above lists
