I got stuck in a ditch today and I was turning the steering wheel back and forth and spinnin the tires ever so slightly to get out and all the sudden I smelt something burning up... smelled like rubber from teh tires spinning but when I got pulled out I had no power steering. Fluid is full, hoses didn't look broken. Anything else that could of happened to this PS Pump? Or just wore out because of that hard abuse? 2.4 motor
naw that's in tact and the car is still being driven
i know your not supposed to keep the wheel turned all the way for an extended amount of time. that ruins the pump. if you open the resevoir does it smell like burnt fluid?
well that's not going to fix it, I must have tore up the pump. How easy is it to replace on the 2.4? Any tips they want to charge me 200 dollars to do it at the local shop.
The pump is a piece of cake. Pump will cost around $60 for a limited lifetime warr re-manufactured one. 2 bolts hold for the pump that is mounted on the back side of the cam tower. A high pressure line and a low pressure line that is attached with a hose clamp.
It depends on the age, but what I have found the high pressure lines are leaking. The fluid actually weeps through the pores of the hose. So I will replace the hoses and flush the system.
Now the hoses, they are a PITA to work with at the rack.
Good luck!!
So I need to replace the hoses too, or only if they are broke?
oh and I don't need to do anything to the belt side then correct as it hooks to the cam on the driver side?/!
if its cam driven, check if you have the hex piece still on the pump, mine broke off causing mine to fail and i almost pushed the hex into the motor...
No hoses needed
