4sp auto ?

I have a 1999 cav with a 4 speed auto trans. I am wondering about changing the fluid out. I have been told it's sealed and that you can only flush it to change the fluid. The shops charge $130 to do a trans flush. They also want me to sign a waver since my car is over 113,000 miles. They say doing the flush may be ok or it my hurt my trans. I am wondering if I can do the flush myself ,and how to go about doing the flush? Also, since it's sealed is there a filter to change? I live in an apartment complex ,so I'm not sure if I can do a change if I have to lift the car up. Thanks for any help with this.

By sealed they mean there is no dip stick or real easy way of checking it. You can do a pan drop which you will have to do to get to the filter it's about $30 if i remember right and it's located in the pan. But to do a full flush you will have do have a shop do it cause it requries a machine to be hooked up that takes out old fluid while putting new fluid in. And they are right about the flush causeing possible harm to your trans it's very rare but does happen.

Ok, cool thank you for the information. I'm going to look into doing a filter change, but I don't think I will be able to do it in the parking lot of my apartments ,god I need a garage.

the reason it can harm peoples transmissions is because they wait till its not working right to do any maintenance on it. if you change the fluid and filter and the recommended intervals there will be no harm.

I think 100k miles is the recommended time on my trans. I actually remember it saying that you should never have to service it.
