Hey all,
I just did something last night that kinda sucked, but I found it to be amusing- So I thought I would share !!
I'm putting my 2.4 back in my Cav for the past few nights after a bunch of work to the vehicle... everything is going well & its time to add some fluids to the motor.
I go next door to my buddies garage to look for some coolant. He works for a Ford dealership, so he usually has a bunch of goodies in his shop. Anyway, I find a full bottle of Premium Gold Engine coolant. Its some crap Ford uses which is supposed to be pretty good- so I figure this will work fine.
Youre not supposed to mix it w/ green or Orange coolant- but my car is totally empty, so it should work just fine.
I grab the coolant & head back next door to pour it in the car. I grab another empty bottle so I can dilute it 50/50 w/ water. I mix it up, shake it up real good & start pouring away. Immediately, I notice this stuff is a little funky looking. Its almost looks like orange juice. It strikes me as odd, but I didn't really think anything of it- just because this is Gold coolant & I assume its a little different.
Anyway, I fill the car up, do a few more things & then head back next door to grab some motor oil. I call my buddy & ask him if he has any. He says yes, theres a whole gallon of it next door in a coolant bottle....
My heart stops.
It immediately hits me. I just mixed water & oil & poured inside my goddamn brand new Griffin Radiator & my entire cooling system.
I rush back next door- setup a catch can & open the drain. Just straight water comes out for a minute or 2, then just this orange goop starts oozing out.
Im out there last night flushing tons of water through my hoses. I have to pull the radiator out & flush it real good. I take some brake cleaning alcohol that he has & I fill the radiator up & let it soak for a little while- pouring nasty @!#$ out every few minutes.
It sucked.
Im an idiot.
Definately ownage on that one.
Ouch.
OUCH That blows. at least you got to it before it did any real harm.
Lesson learned? Dont take from the neighbors.

That's what I was thinking as well.... I think it would have been funnier if his neighbor knew someone was taking his coolant and decided to put some motor oil in a couple bottles haha
Meh...
Me and all my friends rent 2 garages right next to each other- so we are pretty much in and out of both of them. We share !!!
And, why would I go out and purchase fluids when I can get them for free? It was just my dumb mistake. The new oil looked exactly what the gold coolant looks like when I was pouring it out. I knew the bottles had different liquids in them, but I wasn't really thinking it through when I grabbed the one that said coolant.
I'm just a dumbass & didn't think that the farked up looking coolant wasn't coolant at all..
The motor was built 2 summers ago. I changed the body into a manual trans- so nothing too special was "built".
i undertsand the color but what about the consistency...thats some thick coolant.
i had a cimmarron back in the day that was low on tranny fluid. you fill it through the dipstick and of course i filled it in the oil dipstick tube instead. i realized what i had done when i took it for a drive and it was still slipping. doh.
that wasnt as bad as oil in the cooling system though.
Maybe it was a very light weight oil?
Hey, at least your brand new Griffin isn't bent!!!!

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
