Electrical Problems, '05 Cavi

Hey. We just joined the sight today (wife and I)... We have a bone stock '05 Cavalier we bought new, but my mom borrowed it a week later (September '04). We just got it back today, with 55,000 miles on it. We took it out for lunch and found that the horn, cigarette lighter and reverse lights don't work, and the check engine light is on. OK, we read up on the check engine light, but the other stuff has us stumped. Checked the bulbs and fuses - all good. The wires look like new - no corrosion or crimping... What else could cause this? (We didn't pull the steering wheel to check the horn contacts 'cause the air bag scares me - but we checked the wires to the lighter and reverse lights) This is our 5th Cavi since '91, and we've never seen this before. Any ideas?

find the wiring diagrams, find each ciruit and see if there is a spot where they tie in together, possibly a shared ground somewhere is corroded,

Or you can find your horn, take off the connector test for voltage while someone presses the horn and if it doesnt register change your ground to something metal and you should see something between 12-14 volts depending if the car is on or off. then if you really wanted to switch to Ohm scale and see how much resisance there is in the ground.

Yep, that makes sense. I was hoping for something easier, but that does make sense... Thanks for the help.
