My Trac control is causing my car to die. My best guess is at random times my sensor is telling the computer that the wheels are spinning so it tells the engine to reduce power. It does it when I'm driving at normal speed and it just has no more go... it just holds steady at a speed not allowing me to accelerate. sometimes it lasts only a few seconds, other times it pesters me for miles. But more recently it has started doing it when I'm stopped, and at that RPM range, it just kills the car. I know I'm going to have to take it to the shop as it is far beyond my mechanical understanding, but I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues so I can help the shop pinpoint the problem and maybe a general estimate as to parts that would need to be replaced... I believe the ABS sensor and TRAC sensor are a dual sensor, but I may be mistaken.
if you want my advice, it would be to try and see what happens when you disable the wheel sensors. unlug the fuse or the plug from the wheel sensor and see if the problem continues.
the way the traction control works, at least in my car, is it cuts the fuel from the car. so it is very possible that this could be your problem, but i dont know how likely that is.

Doesnt putting the car in 1st disable the Traction Control? Maybe try throwing it in 1st while youre stopped to see if it does it?
I know on my sunfire there was a disable button for the trac system, but there isnt in the cavs.
Put the e-brake up one click to disable ETS. Try doing it while the problem is happening to see if it stops.
Does the "low trac" light come on in the dash when this happens??
Putting the car in 1st or 2nd will disable it, but I can't very well do that while the car is in motion. Pulling up on the e-brake may help, but haven't tried it yet. The TRAC Off light comes on, never the Low TRAC. The shop literally just called and said there was a loose wire on the map sensor and that they reconnected it and it cleared out all the lights. I'm going to give it a try like this and take it back to the shop if it continues.
However, I'm very interested in what whitegoose had to say about disconnecting the wheel sensors. I'll do some research later and see what I can find about that.
