Tranny Slipping? Low Fluid? Low Compression?
Monday, March 31, 2008 3:57 AM
Well i noticed as i was driving the cav last night that in 4th gear if i pushed down the pedal say more than half way i would get this feeling as if the car was reving like the clutch was in and wasnt going anywhere. this only happens in 4th and 5th gear and when i get the gas pedal down past about the half way mark. 1st thru 3rd work fine. not sure what it could be. any ideas?

Im assuming its a manual tranny. Do you have a tach to confirm the engine is revving? When a M/T car revs w/o gaining speed its a sign that the clutch is shot. It does it in the higher gears because your losing the torque multiplication from the lower gears in the tranny. I usually test it by finding a nice hill, drive up it in either 3rd or 4th, and floor the throttle.

I have experianced this in my old 89' GP and my dad's 07' Cummins. Both needed clutches.

yea its a manual and no the car doesnt have a tach. im very familiar with my car and im positive that the car is reving and not moving in 4th and 5th gear. i was almost certain it could be the clutch also but was not sure. the car starts out fine on hills in 1st and i never really had a problem til last night.
