security and service light
Monday, March 24, 2008 10:58 PM
lately my car (01 cav 2.4) has been having problems with headlights and cluster etc. dimming and losing power then my security light and service light come on. i have already replaced the alternator, battery and headlight bulbs. this worked for a while and i thought i fixed it but this was only in the daytime. now i notice that it does this whenever i have lots of stuff running at once. i can drive at night with my headlights on, but i cant have any music or any fan because that puts it over the edge..it starts dimming and i get the warnings again. i really thought i had it fixed when i replaced the alternator and battery but now it seems beyond me. can anyone give me any ideas / tips? thanks.

much appreciated and thanks for the tip... heres my follow up.

i fixed my problem. i was talkin to a guy at work and proper ground came up. now i a while back i relocated my battery to the trunk and i had it working but not the way i wanted it. i needed some bigger wiring so the current could get to the back faster. still may decide to do that but for now its back under the hood but look...

i missed a bolt, it appears that the metal piece is crimped to the neg wire so it has enough power to start and run the car, but when i had my lights on..they worked but only when they were touching because my voltmeter fluctuated so much going from 13 volts all the way to 8. but i put that bolt in (luckily i found it) and i took it for a 15 min drive and it was at a solid 13.9/14 volts the whole time and i ran it with as much juice as i could (lights, fogs, radio, blower, r-defrost). just thought i would share my accomplishment lol now i can work on the truck.
