hey guys, figured out today that my car has a broken front drivers side coil spring and shock mount. I am not the greatest with cars but i know the basics. Im wondering how hard or if its even possible for me to put a new coil and mount in myself?thanks guys.
No, unless you have the proper tool to compress the spring, you will probably seriously hurt yourself. You could bring the spring and shock to a shop, have them mount the spring on the shock, then bring it home an put it on yourself no problem if you had a ride to a garage. I wouldn't suggest trying to mount the spring onto the shock unless you have the right tools, and know what you're doing. The rest is pretty straight forward though.
Another option is to buy a complete strut from a wrecking yard and just do a straight swap. Keep in mind you MAY have to do an alignment afterwards, but take it for a spin and see if it tracs good still.
BOTH my strut plates are sticking on me.. when you turn the wheel lock to lock, all you hear is clunk clunk clunk... lol... kinda funny actually. I'm probably going to go the junk yard route myself, unless I can find a place that rents out a spring compressor.. even then, it all depends on cost too.
good luck man
