my friends sister has a 96 cavalier vert. shes got a squeaking coming from the rear strut when you go over bumps. could it just be the mount?

Mine was squeaky, and I changed the strut and not the mount and it was completely gone. I would suspect strut. if you think it's the mount, drop the strut, pull the mount and inspect it. If it looks ok, no cracking or separation, spray some graphite thru the center hole and around the base of it where it mounts to the body and put it back in, nice and tight. If it still squeaks, its the strut.

thanks. the guy at the place she bought it insists that its the mount but i told her i thought it was the actual strut. but for her sake i was hoping it was just the mount. she dousnt exactly have a lot of cash. reason for me fixing it for her.

both my sisters 02 cav and my parents 04 sunfire developed this problem.... my sister took hers to the dealership... they packed the top portion of the mount with grease.. it went away... my dad got some silicon spray and sprayed the mount on the 04... have not had a problem with either... my sisters was done 2 years ago.. my parents about 1 year...
