i have a 97 sunfire, about 160000 miles on it...The problem i have is that the car misses when it idles, and the warmer it gets the worse the missing gets. I have CEL for a random missfire in cylinder 1 and 4. I changed the spark plugs and wires and it still does it..any suggestion?
also, when the car heats up the oil pressure light comes on when im idling, but it doesnt come on until the car warms up...thanks in advance

well, thats your first problem...
could be a number of things with that wear and tear.. coil packs, bad plugs / wires (and sometimes they WILL come defective), exhaust / intake issues in some cases could even cause an issue with symptoms like that... hell, it could even be problems in the block, or in the fuel system
do some general maintenance if you haven't already like oil change, air filter, and new plugs/ wires... ALSO, check your spark on all the plugs, and make sure the wires are ran correctly from the coil pack
and for the hell of it, throw some good injector cleaner/ or that sea-foam stuff to clean the system (if you haven't done this either already)
Im willing to bet its the coil pack, or the plug wires are mixed up for the 1st and 4th cylinders. They are on the same coil, so I would start with the coils/plugs/wires first.
switching the 1 and 4 wires on a wasted spark system does not cause a misfire, the system is designed so the whole coil charges and the majority of the spark will go to the side which is on the compression stroke, because the cylinder with the compressed fuel and air in it has less resistance than the empty one. It does sound like a bad coil, though. and since 1 and 4 are on the same coil, it would be that one.
good excuse to get some msd coils, as a + for the situation
well for an update...leaking fuel injector in cylinder one so that fixed that. still have a cel for misfire in cylinder 4. changed the plugs and wires...the plug and the wire both have spark, but when the car is idling and you pull the wire from cylinder 4, its like your not even pulling any off. So i dont know, any suggestions?????
test your coils. should get resistance between the 2 nodes on each coil. On the eco's its just over 4ohms if you get no resistance or infinate the coil is fried. Try pulling #2(the matching plug) if that doesn't do anything either your running on 2 cylinders....

well i changed the coil packs today and it now changes the idle when you pull the 4th plug wire, but it still misses like crazy at idle.
what plug gap you running? have you tried using acdelco plugs at oem gap?
also clean plugs. You should also have your injectors tested.

so the motor spun a bearing in cylinder 4. getting a used motor with suposedly between 30 to 40000 on it.
well there ya go
