over the winter time my engine bay has become very dusty and not very nice looking haha... but I was wondering if there's any special precautions i should take now that I've installed a short ram intake... I know obviously the filter cannot get wet.. i'll be washing it out at a local car wash that has engine degreaser that works really good... should I remove the filter before I wash it?? or should I put a plastic bag around it??? also... do I have to worry about water sitting around the filter once i'm done?
cover your distributor cap also.

distributor
wheres the ROFL copter????
LOL any newer than the eighties fuel injected car has no distributor. So no worries LOLLOLOLOLOLOL
i'm not worried about anything electrical... just wondering if there's tips to prevent getting water on the intake filter... also wondering if water got on the filter if it would be bad news...
bag anything suspicious

.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
dont use degreaser unless its a showcar that sits somewhere dry all the time. A greasy engine is better than a rusted one.
well it's not really a de greaser... it's like an engine / tire cleaner... just a mild soap
I going to be washing my engine to just wondering about the alternater if you should try to cover it?
Yes as a precaution cover the alt and dont get any water under the IDI cover I mean do not wet the coils or the sparkplug holes

WRONG
Go look at a Honda... Civic: D series, Civic B series, Integra B series... etc all have distributors... My buddy has an 2001 LS Integra, it has a distributor. and when we did the LS VTEC Conversion, the 98 TYPE R head had a different distributor.

To the OP... take off anything chrome, and remove the filter. You should be good... during show season i pressure wash my engine
weekly.
I use Purple Power, i soak the motor with it, let it sit for a few minutes, then pressure wash it all off... then i soak it down with tire-shine, let the motor run for a little while, and it dries up shining bright. Looks like a brand new engine. Before firing it up, make sure that all the water is out from the beginning of the Throttle body
As for water on your filter (if you dont remove it...) dont spray directly on it. If you have a K&N filter and you accidently wash the filter oil off, you need to go to the parts store and get a recharge kit.
If you don't have a K&N filter, you'll have to let it dry if you get it too wet.

well sorry....don't have to flame me for making a mistake.
ya the only thing i was worried about was getting moisture in the intake... i've know a few people who have hydro locked their ecotecs... but that's a whole other story unrelated to washing their engines haha
