100,000 Mile Question

OK my Pontiac Sunfire 2.2 Eco has just turned 100,00 miles. I couldnt be happier cause she still runs like new. My question is im preparing to change the Timing chain. Do i need to change the Timing Chain, Balance Shaft Chain and water pump or what all do i really need to do. And if anyone knows a ball park figure of how much i should expect to pay let me know please. Thanks Alot Guys.

No, as posted about 10 billion times the chain is not a maintance issue, labor on the water pump is 4.5hrs

Just to make the point, though, I'm approaching 100k too. The timing chain is a lifetime part (i.e. when it breaks, thats the end of the lifetime of your engine).

I would consider changing at 100k miles (if you haven't already done so):

1: the accesory belt 2: the spark plugs 3: the coolant 4: the transmission fluid (maybe) 5: the hoses (an even less likely maybe)

at least thats what I'm planning on doing.

I'm also at about the same mileage, and this has crossed my mind also. It seems sort of hypocritical to say something isn't a maintenance issue, when at the same time it tends to destroy the engine the moment is become an maintenance issue. In any case, I have a head gasket to worry about first.

Dude I know how that feels. Hasnt happened witht his car but has with some of my previous ones. Dont worry dude its not as bad as you think. Only crappy part is I havnt paid the car off yet. LOL

You and me Both Marc, In Any case i tend to Agree with Geeky considering the result when the chain does snap i would think it would be considered a maintenance issue or at the very least a preventitive one at best.

I do believe it has been posted on JBO before that GM says the chain should be good for 150K, possibly more. That is as long as you have one of the mid 2003 and up models...earlier ones have major problems with many not even making 75K.

I did all the fluids in my car along with plugs/fuel filter etc. etc. when it hit 50,000 miles. It is at 65,000 now.

My 03 is at 103,000 as of now.

I seen some 01 2.2L saturns were recalled because of timing chain. I believe that chain was a Tsubaki chain.

What chains are in the 03 and ups? Look on the links, what does it say? Morse - Morse TEC BorgWarner - good stuff.... I don't know what the Tsubaki brand has on their links.
