Just a real quick ? my 99 sunfire the gas gauge is all screwed up. When you first start it up sometimes if you look real quick it will read right then go to about 3/4 of a tank until i get to about 5 gallons and go past full. So i tried a new cluster since my odometer quit and never fixed it.. I found out the girl i got it from her b/f dumped water in the tank and i figure it screwed it up that way. So any way can i test the wires for the sending unit off the cluster some how? If not where? If it's not the wiring i seen i can get the fuel level sensor for like $86.00 should i go that route or get the whole pump/sending unit assembly since the water deal? I've changed the fuel filter to see what i found the original had a bunch of black stuff in it, but the car seems to run fine sort of. It is hard to start and can smell gas after it does so i don't believe it is the pump and i also have a wide band controller hooked up and under fuel throttle i get as rich as 11.1. Just a lil insight if you would i would rather save money for now just to get gauge to work right and worry about the pump later if possible. thanks
i think 11.1 is fine long as "thats is rich as it gets". If it were me i would replace the whole thing because you said there was black stuff all in it. New stuff works better. If your money tight screw it and just try the fuel level sensor.
