BIG PROBLEM W/ SEAFOAM!!!!
Sunday, March 16, 2008 10:08 AM
So i seafoamed my car for the first time, and everything went according to plan, i used a length of tube into my brake booster, sucked up about 3/4 of the bottle into my TB, and shut it off. Started it (rough start, but ended up starting) and then it puffed smoke for about 3 minutes. i leave my car on for about 5 more minutes, then i get in and take it for a ride around town, to clean out the rest of the stuff.

I get home, pop the hood to see if everything is going according to plan, AND IT'S NOT!!

I have OIL ALL OVER MY ENGINE BAY, looks like a blown head gasket. I have oil all over my tranny, all over my Ho manifold, all over my intake piping, my header, my firewall....... long story short, WHAT THE HELLL DID I DO WRONG? my car only has 101K on it, and for the 100K turnover i have been doing a bunch of maintinence (changing out all the fluids, tranny flush, etc) and now this happens.

What could be wrong?? I snapped one photo, since that is all i could do at the time. Your guys' diagnosis would be great!!

Thanks!

That little filter is your breather, right? It's normal to lose some oil from it in the form of a mist. That's why it's piped back into the intake to comply with emissions. It's possible the seafoam knocked some junk loose and caused an increased oil spray, but it's temporary and it will subside. Your engine is probably just fine.

I can't see your firewall in that picture. From that pic, it doesn't look severe at all.

I just took it for another ride, and drove pretty hard. And i wrapped a paper towel over the breather filter to see if anything would spew out, and nothing did. ill just need to keep a close eye on my coolant and my oil levels. See if it is anything severe.

Thanks

I don't think I've seen a SINGLE post EVER saying "Seafoam worked great!" God I'm glad I never used this stuff...

It's fun, but I don't know what's going on with my car. The oil was extensively spewed across my entire engine bay, but now that i cleaned everything up, there is no more oil being spewed up.
The car is a little rough at idle, maybe because the seafoam is covering the IAC, but other than that, i have been driving it, no coolant in the oil, and no oil splatter.

Im still curious how oil got ALL OVER my engine bay.

thats because everything gets blamed on seafoam. not the fact that he could have had a problem before seafoam or the fact that seafoam showed him something sooner, than later that needed to be fixed.

To keep you guys posted, i still have no idea if it is my head gasket. No coolant in the oil, no sweet smell (other than the rest of the seafoam burning off), no more oil leaking, SO im assuming it was just a side effect to having the 2.3L manifold, and seafoaming it.

your car $hit itself.

.

well if everything ok now, then no worry.

MY guess is that ghetto breather filter blew oil back through it and the wind from taking the car for a ride spewed it all over the engine bay.

I used it in my 03 sunfire and my wifes 05 cavalier. Never had a single problem. It made a huge difference in my fire.

I've used Seafoam in both my Cavi, and my Jeep, and in my girlfriends Escort.
My father has used it in his '88 Celebrity, his Jeep cherokee, my sisters wrangler, his wifes intrepid, and her son's Grand AM.
Never had a problem with it yet.

You're not supposed to use it past about 75k miles because it has kerosene in it (kerosene tears through old gaskets).
