hey guys, quick question, my car is running like @!#$.
i think i have a blown cylinder and i need to know what kind of diagnosis i can get by myself.
it sounds like metal on metal and im losing lots of oil, its not leaking, and i think (and my mechanic friend) thinks its a cyl problem. im also getting about 48 mpg which seems even for a cavalier to be extra high. (not complaining about the MPG)
but i have no power, when the car is cold its decent power, but after it warms up it is excessively slow. my friends civic who has never held a prayer to me, has been walking all over me at our track.
any tips tricks or otherwise?
2.2OHV what shoul i look for on/ around / in the plugs?
There's no way in hell you're getting 48 mpg. What makes you think you are?
2002 Cavalier 2200 5spd
500 mile trip, filled the tank before hand
505 miles refilled tank 10.5 gallons thats what makes me think it...
but along the lines of the stuck closed injector... would i be losing oil at the rate im losing it? i burned off or lost about 1/2 quart on the road from SC to MD.
here are the most prominant list of symptoms, i dont know what they would lead to but ill give everything.
im burning or losing approximately 1quart of oil per 1000 miles.
its not leaking on the ground, and i cannot smell it from the tail pipe, or see blue smoke
i hear the motor trying to get power to the ground but, it seems to never get there.
i push the pedal firmly and it feels like im barely getting going
i hear a knock like sound around 2-3K rpms,
my engine has much more power when its ice cold (early morning) than after i have started it and warmed it up, or restarted it later on in the day.
i will check my spark plugs tomorrow morning and see what they look like.
i agree with shifted. prolly a clogged or stuck fuel injector. one of the easiest fixes if it is clogged is to get the fuel injector cleaner at your local auto store and put it in your tank. may set off your check engine light and make it run a little funky for that tank, but will have it running smoothly afterward.
I'll eventually take the time to put something here. I swear.
i tried a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, it didnt do anything differently. so i dropped it off at a local shop to get them to look at it.
Let us know when you get the verdict.

they said they understand the problem, but they cant figure it out either.... but they are checking the head gasket... i hope it something that simple.

If the fuel injector is truely dead, then a bottle of acid won't clean it out and get it working... Injectors do fail completely.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
could be an injector, but it seems nobody around here knows how a cavalier should be running... they said its a head gasket leak, but im still wondering about the injectors.
if i go ahead and replace the injectors myself, should i replace the whole fuel rail?
if you have the money, go ahead. it can never hurt to replace older parts with new ones.
