Im having a huge problem with my car and need someones opinion before i stage a theft for the insurance money..lol....

Its a 93 sunbird 4 door, 2.0L

The problem that im having is that the car has problems starting, it sounds like its back-firing, black smoke comes out of the tail pipe, it wont go over about 60 k, and likes to stall out, But the problem slightly goes away the longer that you drive it.

I have changed the following to try to fix the problem.......

Wires
coil pack
plugs
coolant censor
fuel filter, INSIDE AND OUT

Any ideas would help let me know what anyone thinks...

could possibly be your injectors, I know my car didn't want to start, and stalled all the time, then one of the injectors busted, and caught my engine on fire.
but it could be alot of other BS too.

My car runs a little rich so black smoke comes out of the tail pipe when I crank mine up too, and it smells like pure gas.

Yes, black smoke = rich. Injectors are suspect, and whatever else might effect your stoichiometry.

not a confident answer, because I've never seen it happen on a GM, but my brother's honda prelude displayed these symptoms when his fuel pressure regulator got stuck.

There are a number of things that come to mind. One is how old is ur O2 sensor, while the issue may be present and not set a code it can cause the car to run rich until normal temps.Second u may want to remove ur EGR and clean it to remove the carbon build up which will choke the car and make it run rich.Just use carb cleaner any brand and make sure if it has a pintal that moves up and down it moves freely. Now if a I assume it has a single injector see if its spraying irractically or fine mist.Could be fuel pressure regulator with irractic pressure There are so many different things like bad vac lines etc.Check for any codes even tho a check eng light is not on and I would go simple first, like the above and how old is ur cat convertor over 10 yrs and hows the pressure coming out the back ok or limited,I would do a O2 sensor check the egr then the injector and fuel press reg.Thats a book but something that comes to mind to cause the issue. And check all ur vacumm lines and even map sensor if ur car has oneor maf(mass air flow) i am tossing many ideas so start simple and go from there. If anything is incorrect or something I left off may others add or correct me.
