Unknown front end noise

Ok, Girlfriend is driving a 99 Cavalier 2.2, 3spd auto and there is a noise coming from the front drivers side wheel, kind of a knocking noise, more noise faster you go, no steering wheel shake, goes away on turns sometimes..

So this led me to believe it was her driver side wheel bearing (semi common on cavy's)

Ordered new wheel bearing, came in monday, repaired it today It was a little bad, not as bad as i had expected it to be though. So i replaced with the new one anyway. Upon doing so i noticed my CV shaft had...basically exploded.. and all the grease was out of it. im guessing the dust boot thing got split somwere and leaked it out..

Drove it home anyways and was still making the obnoxious noise, so i was wondering if the CV shaft would make such noise as explained above

regardless,
Today went and got CV shaft and am planning on replacing it tomorrow since the other one is most likely really bad anyways seeing as all the grease was out of it and i have no idea how long the person before me was driving it like this.

Any ideas on my problem or and help in solving my problem of obnoxios noise while driving,
for some strange reason could it be pass. side stuff even though i hear it from the drivers side

Things i have done
*alignment (steering wheel was off, so i figured it may have just been road noise)
*New Front Tires (properly mounted and balanced)
*Front Driverside Wheel Bearing

Thanks for any help/advice

Jimmy

Edit:Changed the CV shaft and its still making the damn noise im kinda pissed because i keep sinking money into this pile and its still not running right everything it should be it isn't so im clueless now..

Anymore ideas?

I've changed:
Alignment
Wheel Bearing
CV shaft
Tires
Brake pads

Strut mount maybe?

The bearing for yours (as the bearing, and not the entire assembly) is replaceable, can't hurt to try it.
