Cleaning Rims
Friday, March 07, 2008 10:34 AM
So I've been trying to find a substance to clean my rims. I've tried a couple rim cleaners with no luck. So today I purchased a product called "Mean Green - All Purpose Cleaner" and a bug sponge. I spent a good 15 minutes on two rim and it was able to get the gold haze color off of my LS Sport chrome rims. I still have plenty of scrubbing to do still, but it is actually removing that gold haze.

Just a product to consider with upcoming spring.

when I had the Z24, I used this

it worked pretty good but I used a high pressure hose from a car wash.
just spray it, wait a little bit and high pressure. my z24 rims looked white in seconds!
damn it, I miss my Z24. Why did the cylinder head screw up!?
sorry! got a little flashback
anyway, just try that wheel cleaner and seeif it works better than mean green.

Want nice clean headlights?
try this PLASTX

NAPA sells them. clean the surface and wax on wax off, use it on your dash gages too!
do a search on it.

Being a clean freak I strongly recommend u buy blue magic liquid metal polish. This comes in a paste or liquid (recom liquid version). I use this to keep my tractor trailer aluminum whls looking NEW and this is the best product over anything avail.I have used the various brand polishes at advance, autozone, napa and they just do not even come close.I also use this on my alum whls on my pu and it will remove just about any blemish there is aside from metal damage.U may not find this liquid version at the above stores but a truck stop which is where I find the liquid version I know advance sells the paste it works but, more work.Thats the best suggestion I can offer most cleaners just clean and do not necess remove the stuff a polish will ,I also use this on my wifes alloy whls on her accord works wonders period.U simple apply it work it in until ur cloth turns black and wipe clean with a cotton rag and I normally use a chammy (my spelling ) for the final wipe and whala.Hope this book helps.

please dont ur asking for problems. ive seen it mess up wheels. do it right and buy a quality tested product meant to clean the rims. heck they have cleaners just for painted wheels, just for chrome, and just for aulminum wheels so spend the 3-6 bucks and do it right.

I wasn't sure if it worked or not, I heard it works great, but I've also heard it'll mess them up...I've never tried it.

thats cool the cleaners are less acidic and there for dont harme the finish what ever it may be. laquer was designed with the intension to remove paint its main use is in paint guns for example to clean out the parts after a paint job. so no harm in asking just some food for thought on it.
