This may seem like a stupid or "n00b" question, and if it is, I apologize. I did a quick search and didn't see anything that is precisely like this scenario, so I decided to ask it here. And I am asking for a friend -- this is not my car.

My friend has a 2003 Sunfire and about two weeks ago the headlights and daytime running lights wouldn't come on (service light was not on at the time). When she brought it to the mechanic, they claimed it was a wire rubbing against the frame and they replaced it (the wiring harness, that is). It worked after that until recently, when the same exactly problem came up. This time, however, the "service" light came on.

All the bulbs have been replaced and the wiring harness has been replaced, so we're at a bit of a loss.

Anyone have any suggestions or have any idea exactly what this problem could be?

Also, all fuses were checked -- they are fine.

I would check the wiring again it happened to me none of the lights would work and the service light was on i traced the wiring and the harness runs behind the windshield washer fluid bottle and frame had rubbed through 3 wires which happened to be the lights. But it is a pain since you have to pull off the bumper and washer fluid bottle.Try that let me know how it turns out.

i had a similar problem but it happened on the bottom by the corners of the radiator...check the bulbs also. Also try where Ricardo said, common spot after all that it might be the switch

Does the DRL light flash a few times when you first start the car? Then it stops flashing, and the Service light comes on?

If so... you've got a bad headlight bulb.
