problem with RPM's!?
Tuesday, March 04, 2008 3:47 PM
hello, the car is a 97 sunfire sedan, 2.2L auto. not sure if this is the right section of the forum to post this but, when i try reving it up in park or neutral it acts like it is bouncing off the rev limiter at around 3500-4000 rpm. anyone know anything about this? thanks. P.S. - i just changed the plugs and the fuel pressure regulator (because it was leaking).

its not supposed to rev that high.... run a scanner for the engine code, advance or autozone should do it free.

i believe with the auto trans all the engines have a 4000rpm limiter on them. i think the car has to be going a certain speed before the engine can rev higher. there are ways around it but there is no real purpose to reving the engine that high in park or neutral.

Normal. But you should get that check engine light looked at.
