Has anyone bought a kit before?
If so where from? Price? Contents?
any recommendations?
Ive only found some from import performance parts
And I haven't heard the best stuff about them so Im not really sure what to do
Im thinking about getting
-gasket set
-timing set
-rod and main bearings
-pistons (maybe)
-piston rings
Can anyone think of anything I should get while im at it?
Ive already got an water pump.

Why are you rebuilding it? Also oil pump, water pump.

I just recently had to go thru this. Spun a rod bearing and was going to rebuild the motor. For a full engine rebuild kit it was about 400. I got the motor apart and seen what a pain it was going to be. So i went a different, less money and less time consuming route. I found a local junk yard that had a motor for $250 with only 40k on it. In my personal opinion these motors are not worth rebuilding when u compare the price of a used motor.

Let me start by saying if someone can find a running 2.4 with 40k on it for $250 let me know I will buy a few of them. 2.4's go for $650+ easy. Closer to $950. To m do a proper rebuild you are going to spend right at a grand easy. I did a 2.4 rebuild on my ex-wifes 96 grand am. It spun a rod bearing. We were able to have the crank polished, used the stock pistons and rods (they were re-sized), hot tanked the block, valve job done, used stock cams, put in new oil, water pump, all new gaskets, new bearings, rings. We honed the block our selves, and put in a new stock replacement clutch. We did it for right at $950 with having some discounts on some of the work we did not do. If time is not a option(or you have a machine shop at your house) then rebuild maybe replace a few things to make it slightly better, but will spend a little more. If time is a option buy a used running motor.

Sorry i got it mixed up, lookin thru to many post i thought this was a 2200
I just scraped a z24 that had a bent valve in it. I guess prices are just a little bit cheaper up here in ky than texas, the junkyard where i got my 2200 does have a couple 2.4's and they want $400 for them. I priced the rebuild kit for my 2200 at advanced auto parts so u might want to check on the price for a 2.4 rebuild kit there.
