can't figure this one out
Monday, February 18, 2008 2:09 AM
Hey all, have a quick question. Recently i bought new bulbs for my headlights, Nokya H11 i believe they are. I have only had these in my car for about a month and the passenger side burnt out already. The passenger side also burnt out before which is why i got the nokya bulbs. Now that the one low beam is burnt out both my hi beams are lit up. The hi beams aren't on all the way but they are definitely lit up. I need some help on this one. is it a safety feature that the high beams come on when a low blows out? I didn't think it was but maybe im wrong. any help would be awesome having to replace the passenger bulb after a month is gonna get expensive.

I now have a service light on my dash. Also if i have my headlights and fogs on at the same time and switch on my brights the fogs disable (which they should) but then go back to low beams the fogs don't come back on.

thanks

no, i have the right bulbs. 03-05 sunfire use H11 for lows and h9 for brights. Maybe cavs are different?

not to sure about pre 2000 sunfires... but 00-02 sunfires use 9007's..... 03-05's use H11 for lows H9 for brights..... unlike cavaliers that are 00-05 9007's

as for your problem... it could be your light switch.... I would hit up a local shop and get them to pull the code... that could be a lot of help.....

As for the issue with the fogs turning off when brights are on then they don't turn on again when you put your lows back on... I think that is how the 03-05's work.... I have a 01 sunfire gt and when i hit my brights then go back to lows my fogs come back on... but on my parents 05 you have to turn them on manually...

as for your issue with one bulb always burning out... I would check the wiring and make sure there's nothing going crazy there..... also are you making 100% that you are not touching the glass portion of the bulbs?

Im pretty sure the foggs are susposed to come back on when you switch back to lows. my buddy has the same year sunfire as me and we tested it out on his and thats the way it works. Im also positive im not touching the glass. i don't think the bulb is burnt out it just glows really dim. my first thought was the bulb blew but i change it and the new one would only slightly glow as well. i really have no idea what going on with this issue. Could it be the drl relay in the fuse box it seems kinda loose?
