I can't drive mine either.....I have no car right now because of the idle. I found a way to fix it, and it was fine today and then on my way home it shoots up again!!!!!!!! I fixed it 3 times this week and it won't stay down!

try giving it a sedative....... that ought to calm her down.

Its prett y funny, when i start her up, its winds itself up to about 4500 and sits there for a second and then idles down to about 3600 and sits there damn car!!!

Try what I do, I disconnect the TPS Sensor and the battery, leave it off for a FEW hours, hook back up. It's lasted me up to 5 months with no problems. But lately I'm doing it and its not working for more than 3 hours! Try it though see if it works for you.

Spare me the embarrassment of telling you I dont know where the TPS sensor is but help me out would ya also i think mine is more of a really bad vacuum leak that i can seem to find.

step one, get an analog multimeter, connect the leads to the TP sensor and turn it slowly looking for a nice smooth 5 volt sweep if you suspect the TP sensor

Step two, if you think its a vacumn leak.. start the car and get yourself a can of brake cleaner and spray it around all vacumn sources till you hear the motor make a fluctuation, then you probably found your leak.

thanks cavmania, which sensor on the tb is the TP sensor was actually my ? While I got your attention tho, my car is actually idling at 3700rpms or so after it warms up. which do you think it would be? or do you think it would be something else

Well, mines not a vaccuum leak, especially since my re-setting thing works sometimes. I've replaced the TPS twice and it still doesn't fix the problem, and sometimes my throttle shows 5% when its fully closed.....no leaks.....I'm lost on what to do. I tried having it fixed at shops THREE times. No one has an answer for me! The only thing that works is what I do by disconnecting the TPS and battery and leaving it overnight, then hook it all back up in the morning. Usually it'll go about a month or 2 before the high idle comes back. But I tried this process 3 times this weekend and it keeps going back up. .

schmidty........when you look at your TB, its the sensor on the right side of it. its a smaller one on the right side of it when you're standing in front of the car. Start your car and pull it out, see if it drops the idle to normal. Thats what mine does. Then just try re-setting it like I said and see if it works for you! Just keep the TPS sensor out and disconnect the battery for at least a few hours.

i dont know if you know this yet but i had just put a new motor in the car and it never idled right. it is the same tb and sensors that was on the old motor and never had any problems. but i will try that along with the vacuum leak test

Is it in need of a computer reflash through GM. I thought that I read somewhere before that the computer has to be reflashed in order to correct the problem.

I actually wanna replace my computer and have the reflash done but I asked my local dealer about it and they want $225 just for the reflash!!! I don't have that kinda money to get the new ecu and the reflash . Plus I don't know if that'll solve my problem.

add me to this problem....although I think I know why mine won't idle.....

I believe I have an automatic PCM in my 5 speed S/C car...

i still cant figure out my idle, i checked for a vacuum leak and it still just winds itself out to 4500 and idles down to 3700 once warm, driving me crazy i cant drive it like that

you guys have tried replacing your IAC to see if it fixed the problem right?

thats the first thing you should check if you have a high idle problem like that.

any way of testing the IAC?

I have it right here in front of me...is the black thing supposed to move in and out? mine only twists about 15 degrees back and forth...no it and out motion....

hey, i had the same problem... oddly enough its a bent butterfly shaft in your TB... search for my posts about a year ago, im not going to retype it all but its a odd situation with its programming... you need to get a security 'star' 5mm driver and bring the factory idle set screw in a little... if you dont believe me, take the air hose going to the tb off, put your hand over the IAC inlet and see if it cuts off, its suppose to, if not, there is air getting in somewhere else(your butterfly is not completely shut) or you have a gasket or vacuum leak somehwere...

or ifyou want to sell the car to me for cheap im all for that too

peace thomas

ps, im guessing it is caused by our bad driving habits on throttle usage. if you want to know why it keeps creeping up read my previous posts
