my issue is when im driving my car its going through fuel like no other, it hasn't always done this it just started doing it.But when its in park and ideling it isn't going throught alot of fuel only when im driving. Does anyone know anything i should check on my car or know what it could be that i could check. Any suggestions would really help. Im just getting tired of putting gas in it everyday
what kind of mileage are you getting? how much do you put on a tank?
nothing comes to mind right now, but if you post some more info, someone may be able to help you.
well i'm getting 150km's to like 20L of fuel !!
what have u done recently ......
any tune ups anything replaced ?
any Additives Added in any part of your car (ie fuel system cleaner ..)
these things are the first thing that comes to mind ......
second .... is the 02 sensor ......
it is what is giving you computer the reading for the mixture of air / fuel ....
if its dirty or on its way out it will throw your engines a/f ratio off ....
you wouldnt happen to have a aftermarket guage for a/f would u lol ?
any engine lights coming on ?
is the car driving differently like rough @ idle or not having as much horse power ...?
harder to start ? i see you live in ontario so ... unless you live in a condo ....
its cold starting every morning ...correct ?
in all honesty .... my fire gets around 400
maybe more now with the cai and the cat and cat back done ...
im just waiting on a replacement gauge for my 3 gauge piller pod
one of the gauges is a/f ... so i can keep an eye on the ratio ...i figure its a small investment since ive never changed it b 4
do you have any engine mod's done ?? or just body ?
That's not really uncommon mileage for winter in-town use. That's around 13.5 Litres per 100km. My Sunfire was rated at 11.0 in town, under ideal conditions. Short trips in cold weather can be nasty for fuel economy. My wife's van has been averaging around 18-20L/100km lately. Not exactly directly comparable, but on a trip last summer I averaged only 9.4L/100km with a full load, and the A/C on most of the time (and that was averaged over 7,300km of driving).
I'm just guessing at the short trips (10km or less). If you're driving longer distances, and your foot isn't too heavy, then maybe something IS wrong. Low tire pressure will have some effect, but not too much - worth a check though.
I typically drive around the speed limit, mostly at highway speeds on trips that are 50+km, so I've been getting around 8 to 8.5L/100km with mine this winter. I really baby it when cold though, to let it warm up gently. You don't need to idle it much first - a minute or so is adequate. Idling will probably consume about 1.5 to 2L per hour at this time of year.
If everything's working well, driving habits will have the largest impact. I'm also running a synthetic 0W30 oil, but I wouldn't expect that to have more than a 1-3% difference in mileage.
If you had a leak you would certainly smell it. If you do, it's worth a look. I've seen fuel filters rot right out, here in the lovely rust-belt called Ontario.
What does your air filter look like?

We all drive in a yellow Cavalier...
well the only thing that come to mind is, i just got an exhaust leak would that have something to do with the way i have been going through fuel !! the air filter was cleaned about 7-8000 km's ago. have used any Additives since the or before the fuel milage went down hill ?
If the exhaust leak is near the engine, it may affect the oxygen sensor. They sense the extra oxygen from the leak and inject more fuel into the engine. When my flexpipe was leaking, the first O2 sensor was reading a lower voltage and the second was reading 0V. I also got the code for slow response at that time.
well for all that searching i was thinking that is was the map sensor, went to the shop and they scaned it and found out that it was the map sensor so i'm all set now thank for all the help guys !!!!!
