i notice driving around that my car gets very hot . i know the normal is 195 but this sucker seems to be hovering around 200 most times. is this usual ? is it better to run a cooler thermostat ? on my 1999 regal gs i run a 180 and i love it but in the winter it sucks . from what i heard a cooler running engine will perform better and last longer.

thanx manny

You should run the stock thermostat. 200 is nothing, most of our fans don't turn on until 225. Most damage to an engine occurs when it's cold, not once warmed up. Also, running a colder than normal thermostat will have a negative impact on fuel economy. Sitting in traffic, the thermostat will make no difference because the fan won't kick on until the ECU wants it to.
