On a 1997, 2.4l, LD9, with two shot rod bearings, what are the chances of the crank still being any good? Advice anyone?
it depends on how long the engine was ran with said bad bearings. if it wasnt very long the crank could be ok. if it was driven awhile afterwards it could be screwed. on the other hand sometimes it doesnt matter, if your bearing were pretty warn down (high mileage) and the problem occoured it may not take a whole lot of running to mess up the crank.
the only way to tell if it is still usable is to get it out and take it to a machine shop. you could however look at the throws while the crank is still in the engine and even the engine still in the car. if there's a considerable amount of bearing material ground into the throws its more than likely going to be gone.
