I am having some trouble removing the ecotec from my 03 cavalier in order to replace it (it is knocking). I have all the accessories, wiring, mounts, bell housing bolts, etc. removed, and the engine is dangling from the lift. However, I can't get it separated from the transmission. There doesn't seem to be enough room to pull the fly wheel/pressure plate out of the transmission, and I can't get to the bolts that hold the pressure plate on. To be clear, I am trying to pull the engine only, leaving the transmission in the car. Do I have to pull the tranny too? Please tell me I don't have to drop it from below and lift the body! Please help!
Thanks,
Daniel

Ah man i did mine like that to! I striped everything of the left side of the motor. There is enough room to slide it. Jack of the left side of your motor so its at a angle. You have to jack it up really high. Your transmission will come up as you jack the motor up sideways and it will come out. Its way harder putting it back in. Let me know if you need more help.
