96 cav ECM swap - cant get anti-theft off??

1996 cav 2.2

Started out have a no spark problem.. went through the whole car sensors and ign module.. and nothing helped.. getting crank rpm.. ran a good scan tool and came up with a ECM/PCM over heat code..

when swapping out the old one i started the car up after banging the old ECM around and the car fired right up.. ran for 5 minutes and died.. I decided that it must be a fried ECM so i did some digging and found a ECM out of an identical car.. same engine trans options (not sure about gears)..

Got in with the new ECM in and the car fired right up.. a few seconds lator it died. and the anti-theft starting blinking..

i was told to let the key forward for 10 minutes bring it back to off and start it.. i did and the car sputtered like it was getting no fuel.. the anti-theft is no longer blinking and the car isnt starting.. im trying the relearn process 3 times so i didnt check for spark or fuel yet..

sounds like an anti theft problem?????????????? how can i fix it???????

does the computer need flashed?

to fix the anti-theft problem.
you need to lock your car with the key and open the car using your key, get inside, shut the door, lock it, start the car. it should start so go try it.
if it doesn't start let us know

thats a new one. i dont get how loking the doors would have ANYTHING to do with the theft system. and as a matter of fact. there in no way connected. wow.

96-99 J-car

1. Attempt to start the vehicle, then leave the ignition ON. The THEFT SYSTEM light telltale will flash for 10 minutes.

2. When the THEFT SYSTEM telltale stops flashing, start the vehicle. Once the vehicle is running, the password is learned.

Basically try and start the car. when it dies. keep the ignition on for 10 minutes. when it stops flashing start the car. DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION OFF FIRST.

actually if i leave the key forward for 10 minutes and try starting it, will it reset agan?

the theft light stopped blinking, does that mean the theft system has been disabled?
because the car still isnt starting.

Im looking for some help, anyone thats got an idea let me know..

1996 cavalier 2.2

started out the problem, no spark.
changed the cam and crank sensor. it has crank rpm. has injector spray
scanned it and got a ECM / PCM overheat code
took off the ignition module and coils and had them tested they are good.. and the ING mod should have a good ground.. i externally grouned it to the battery to double check.

nocked out the old ECM and the car started with the old ECM still attached after getting it out.. but then died
so i put in a new ECM. and it fired up right away.. then anti theft made it die.. theft light stopped blinking on the new ECM and now were back to no spark on the NEW ECM...

my only next idea is to flash the new ECM... anyone else got an idea? maybe i got 2 bad ECM's? what are the odds?

Did you replace the computer that goes under the front bumper and the fender?
if you installed a new computer or a different computer, the computer has to be flashed at a chevy dealer or some place that can flash it for you. if not, the car will not start
