I have a 96 cavalier i just bought for a beater. I initially thought it was the fuel pump since it was not turning on. But when i looked more into it i realized its not getting spark either. Ive changed the crank sensor so far and nothing. Im thinking its electrical seeing how im getting neither. ive also checked all the fuses and relays also. Any ideas guys?
Check your wires, plugs and coils first for spark. For fuel, just listen to see if the fuel pump humms when you turn the key that will let you know if its working or not.
as stated above, the fuel pump does not turn on.
Check engine light on? If so, see if you can beg, borrow, or finagle a code reader. Since you say the fuses and relays are good, the PCM might have an issue, although thats a major longshot. the car does crank when you turn the key yes? Another thing you may try is getting a test light or a DMM and probe the maxi-fuses and relays in the underhood fusebox, and see if 12 volts is getting where it needs to be getting. And just for the hell of it, swap the A/C relay for the fuel pump relay.
