so one day i was driving and someone cut infront of me...well i had to slam my brakes and honk my horn to tell them that they are an idiot, well when i went to honk my horn, it didnt honk...
well i got home and tried it again and still didnt work...i went to lock my car and than i noticed that it worked, but not from my steering wheel..
basically how do i get my steering wheel off so i can check the connection?
disable the airbag system, remove the airbag from the wheel and check the connections. If they seem fine, the clockspring behind the wheel may be bad, in which case since you already have the 'bag off, use a steering wheel puller available at almost any parts store for a cheap rental fee or deposit to remove the wheel, they usually come with instructions, but are pretty simple to figure out. Just make sure the front wheels are pointed straight ahead, and note where exactly the steering wheel is positioned in relation to that, remove the center nut, thread the pullers bolts into the holes in the wheel, and turn the center bolt the correct direction till the wheel comes off.
yo i have an 03 model i forgot to mention...does that change anything, because i've been trying to unbolt the steering wheel and it doesnt seem to take any bolts/screwdrivers...im really confused at this point
Should be a couple screws in the back of the wheel that hold the airbag on. Probably Torx, never seen the ones on an '03+ so not sure. Once the bag is off, the only thing holding the wheel on is the big nut in the center and friction on the shaft splines that needs a puller to overcome.
