'99 2.2 Automatic Cavalier
A pretty wicked vibration as begun when the car is stopped, but the trans in in DRIVE. If you shift to NEUTRAL, the vibration goes away. Vibration and noise sounds almost like an air pump under the hood.
In addition to this, I've also noticed that sometimes when I take off, there is a distinct and loud POP from the passenger left side of the firewall/engine bay.
I'm thinking it's the motor mounts, but I cannot for the life of me even find the damn mounts on the engine.
Someone have a 'how-to' or pictures on how to get the job done?
Thanks guys!
you cant find the motor mount in a cavalier ? haha jk man. theres a top mount on the passenger side, clear as day.
easy to replace the top mount.
you need to support the motor from the bottom.
i like to use the the scissor jack, and place it right under the lower motor mount ( on the passenger side).
lift the jack up just enough to support the motor.
t jack it to where the motor rises about and inch or two.
remove the 4 bolts from the motor mounts. remove mount . done!!
you may have to slide the over flow tank to access the motor mount bolts.
to install just go in reverse. you might have to jack the motor up a tad bit to get the mount holes to realign again. this is a pretty simple project. i would get pics but i never have enough daylight after work.
this is just my way.. . but remember
ALWAYS SUPPORT YOUR MOTOR FROM THE BOTTOM BEFORE REMOVING ANY MOTORMOUNT NUTS OR BOLTS!!.
This is the first transverse (sideways) engine I've had to work on; I'm usually wrenching on my 6.8l V-10 F-250 where things are easily seen and very easy to get to!
Thanks for the info; at the least it gave me a starting point for changing them out!
THANKS!
trust me the motor mounts is easly changed .. less then 30 mins
