new cav new problem.

i recently bought a 2002 cavalier with auto tranny at an auction, when i took the car home, i steped on the gas and it would not downshift as if i were to pass it stays in gear and it only goes up to 3500-4000 rpm, and it only goes to 75mph and it takes for ever to get ther, i found a black box with some wires underneath the carpet behind the gas pedal, that i know should not be there, cause my wifes cavalier doesnt have it and my brothers cav doesnt have it either? any ideas what it may be, speed governor? or one of those things to record your speed and distance, maybe it was put by the court to keep track of the driving style of the previous owner? dont really know,? and i really dont know how to post pics but i have some if some one can help me with those.

thanks.

You need a photo host, I use Photobucket.com, create and account, upload your photos and copy/paste the forum links to this site when you post.

As far as this box, whats it hooked up to? where do the wires lead? does it say anything on the box at all? something like a model number or name that you can google?

It could be an alarm...if the car has one try puting it on and off and listen for a clik in the black box.

that looks like a tracking box. to "aftermarket" to be just an alarm. and why would the cat 5 cable be needed for an alarm? i would go ask the dealer whats up.

just unplug everything...do not cut!!! That is definitely not an alarm, im not sure what it is but you probably dont need it....just try to unplug everything, it looks like it should be easy. BTW how ever installed it was lazy as @!#$ because they didnt try to hide it at all....it is kinda big tho
