do all 2.2 and 2.4 tick in the engine? how do i stop it?every cavy ive worked on had a tic but i know for sure its not the lifters so can anyone help?
also i have a cracking noise coming from my passenger side when i accelerate from stop,or turn left...when this first happend i had to change the A-frame bolt but thats not the problem no more, also around every 15 mi their is a loud pop noise coming from the same side? can anyone help?
DOHC engines, like the ecotec or the quad series (2.2 and 2.4), tend to have a "ticky" top end because the cams are up there. If its excessively loud, I would take it to a professional.
I'm not sure about the cracking noise, but what is the condition of all your bushings and your strut mount?
they look great from what i can tell...but i can check again
I've noticed both of my Cavaliers(01 auto and 98 manual) which had 2200(2.2) had a faint tick.
The manual tends to get ever so slightly quieter when the clutch is released.

No tick in mine or the gf's that I can hear, they both sound like normal smooth-running engines to me. Of course, OHV valvetrains tend to make more noise just by design.

on the 2.4 i would also check the timing chain tensioner shoe. that could cause a ticking sound on the passenger side ..
