ok my car still overheats. i want to get this fixed before the head gasket goes. everytime i drive the car, it builds up air in the coolent system. i bring the pressure down by loosening the little valve until i get some coolent to spurt. this will usually cool the motor down quite a bit, but will the pressure rises soon after. i checked my oil, and it fine. no coolent in it. i get heat, so im sure its not my thermostat. im wondering if it could be my water pump. mabe its not pumping the coolent enough? i replaced it about a year ago, but am thinking it still bad. if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
oh the car is a 1996 base 2.2 ohv cavy thats in my sig
The thermostat senses the temperature of the coolant returning from the heater core. If there is air in the heater core, the thermostat will not sense the proper temperature. Is the thermostat installed properly or good? Is the heater core plugged?
When I changed the thermostat and coolant on my 2.2OHV, the engine ran hot (but not in the red zone yet) the first time I ran it. After that, the temperature was fine.
Just curious did u flush youre cooling system with flush solution?. Also If you got air in the cooling system, Just remove youre resivior cap allow it to idle for 10-15 mins. Also turn youre heat onto defrost allow it to blast for 10-15 mins, That should allow all the air release out of the system.
Good Luck.
i also have to mention that i have misfire on number 3 cylinder. iv read somethin about the if the cylinder is low on compression the lost air somwehow goes into the coolent lines .. is this correct?
I just did my cooling system flush and thermostat replacement. I had to burp the systme cause I had no heat coming out of my heater, Due to air in the coolant system, What u need to do is allow youre car to idle for 15-25 mins. Add 70% coolant and then top it up with water. U will need to get the car up to normal operating tempature, Then u need to have the resvoior cap off allow the coolant to flow, Once the temp reads 90c its all good, system is done. Now if you got a miss in #3 cyl whats the plug showing.
Good Luck.
AIr from cylinder will only go into the cooling system if the head gasket is leaking or head is cracked.
There should also be a coolant bleeder screw on the black coolant pipe running across the front of the engine. I know I had to "burp" mine a few times when I did a coolant flush...

yea i tried both bleeder screws .. and air still comes out
i pulled to spark plugs .. number 2 and 3.. number 2 is fine and 3 has coolent comming out. i check the spark plug hole by placing a screw driver through. number 2 cam out dr bone, and 3 had coolent come out with the driver. theres no coolent in my oil only in my number 3 spark plug.. where lyes the problem ?
well i desided to pull the head off.. took me about 2hrs with some breaks. i had coolent in my cylinders. but still none in my oil. im sure i have a bad head or my gasket went bad again. i had a felpo gasket. anyone recommend somethin better then felpro?
i would do a 2.4 swap but im just gonna rebuild this motor. i priced a rebuilt head on ebay for 250-280 shipped no core. and one on kragen.com for 290 with 200 core. anyone know where i can get a rebuilt or new head? im also thinking of doing a roller rocker conversion, and a header. keep in mind im not out for alot of power, just a little off the line acceleration.
I would recommend doing a new cyl hd and hd gasket little more more up front, It will save u alot of head aches in the future. If the cyl hd has a hair line crack, It will get worst in the future. Ive done these too many times. Also wasted so much time doing the same job twice.
Good Luck.
yea im gettin a NEw head this time .. and head gasket. its halfway done rite now im just in the process of cleaning the top of the block off. this is my second time so it was cinch for me. took me about 2hrs to get the block off. i will have some pics on the rebuild on my 2.2 azncav post.
