o2 sensor issues
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 11:56 AM
i installed a gasket on my tsudo header that work for a few min then burned up (befor it was just metal on metal and leakin), a few minuts later i got check engin, then a track off light. auto zone scaned and it said bank 1 o2 sensor.

do u all think stopin the header leak would make the code go away or do i gotta replace the sensor, if so which one?

No It will not work on your pre cat sensor! Make sure your o2 wires are clear of all hot things! my wire was touching a coolent line and burned the wire and caused mine to throw a low signal in my o2 bank 1! But if you replace it you have to get a AC DELCO o2!! Not sure why but I replaced mine with a autozone bosch sensor and it is running like crap! You can chech my post on here titled Car troubles!

Exactly what was this gasket made of?

Maybe as it burned, it coated the sensor with junk.

the exhaust gasket should be metal...no burning
snake is right...if whatever you used actually burned up it might have ruined the o2.

I sent you a PM about this. Take care of the exhaust leak first. A exhaust leak could cause reading problems witrh the O2 sensor. It could also be if it was a non metal gasket that it burned and jacked up the O2 sensor as well. Still fix exhaust leak with stock metal gasket then worry about O2 sensor.

I'm having the same issues. I just replaced the primary 02 sensor and had the code cleared, and now the CEL is back and the car is throwing the code for primary 02 sensor again. I do know I have an exhaust leak somewhere which I'm guessing could be the problem, but I see where someone also mentioned the Bosch brand sensors not working with our cars??? I ran the Bosch sensor for over 600 miles before the car threw the code and started acting funny again. I'm just confused because all the wiring is fine and my air/fuel gauge is still giving a reading now (reads rich now that the CEL is on). Anyone got any answers for me?

its a cut out from mr.gasket material, there is no leak i had it check out all over, and they said the header is supposed to be raspy like that. when i hit the gas u can feel the car sputterin i found a denso 4 wire 02 sensor to use, no one has an ac delco anywhere aroun here, ill get it on theis weekend and try to run the 4 wire heated setup.

OK so I replaces to O2 sensor with a denso universal 4 wire, and found out i already have a 4 wire setup. I do have a leak from the flex pipe on the tsudo but only when its 2500 rpm and up and the car boggs just very little barly noticable, but ill keep it in for now till i can order an ac delco one and figure out somethin to do about the flep pipe.

A leaking flex pipe may cause the CEL to come on. WHen the flex pipe on my 2000 2.2 leaked, I got a code for slow response on the first O2 sensor and the voltage was reading lower from this sensor. THe second sensor was reading 0volts all the time but I got the flex pipe replaced before a code appeared. Could not stand the noise anymore.
