How To Remove Power Steering Pump

I have a 1996 Sunfire with the 2.2 OHV. Just had the auto trans rebuilt but now either the head gasket is blown or the head is warped. I decided to pull the head myself but am stuck on how to remove the power steering pump. The Haynes manual doesn't show enough info and for the life of me I can't figure this out. It can't be that difficult can it?

You see the pulley for it. There are holes in it. The holes and through the holes. you will have to move the pulley to get to each bolt.

Well that is the way the 2200 is i just realized to have a 96. should be the same idea

that is definately right. but also it is alot easier to do if you have a swivel head for your socket, trust me would have saved me alot of time when replaceing my idler arm.

yup both are right. get a swivel head, and get a socket long enough to fit and clear the pully holes.

This is exactly what I needed to read. lol. I also have a 1996 Sunfire 2.2L OHV, and it also needs a head gasket. And I couldn't even find ONE bolt to take off. They were hiding I guess. Thanks a lot guys! I have another question though. Can anyone tell me how to take off the intake manifold? I'm sort of flying blind without a manual, I've only really worked on V8's, and these four cylinders have everything in one confined area. I can't figure out how to disconnect the fuel tubes going into and out of the manifold to get to two of the bolts in the bottom of the manifold. Any help is greatly appreciated.

they make a special "fuel line take off" tool...more or less and fine crafted piece of plastic....pretty cheap at all parts stores

for those doing a head gasket or removing the head make sure you buy a new set of head bolts because they are torque-to-yield, which means they can be tightened once and when loosened they cant be put back in.
