TPS Problems

So the 98 Z24 is throwing a TPS voltage low code. Went to Advance, got a TPS, didn't fix the problem. Took it to the Mechanic, said the TPS from Advance was bad, so I replaced it...didn't fix the problem. Thinking all TPS's from Advance are crap, I bought an AC Delco from local chevy parts dealer....didn't fix the problem.

Car is shifting hard, won't go into passing gear...almost hasn't made it into traffic a few times...just fell on its face. Check Engine light and ETS Off light is on.

I'm guessing that it has something to do with what ever feeds the TPS it's power...anyone know what that is or have any clue as what to try next?

Thanks!

Need to get a meter on the wires going into the TPs sensor. Also check the wires on that plug. Could be the wires have gotten pulled on, pins not making a good connection. Sounds like the signal is not making it to the ECU. First sensor might not have been bad.

well when you put the new tps in did you disconnect the batt for at least 15 min that usually help. this is a huge problem with the 2.4. try that see if it works

Yeah...see I did that...

The strange part is that my mechanic said that at idle the TPS was reading a 5v signal...but when you hit the gas it was dropping down to as low as 1v...

Seems odd that it would fluctuate like that...

I will check the wires again though...that's kinda why I was wondering where the wires come from so I know where all to check...

thanks for all the help everyone!

It is suppose ot change as the throttle is open. Per hanyes manual it should go up (to 5v) as the throttle is opened and down (from 5 v) as the throttle is closed.

Looks like the wiring is backwards. The +5V power and common wire are switched

Fixed...B&M shift plus kit must have been messing with it. Disconnected it from the ECU and now its running like it should....so YAY!

Thanks for all of you helping me out
